Like many photographers, I am not good at talking about myself, what I think or what I want to convey. For this reason, long ago, I found in the camera, a method of expressing myself, or rather, to show everyone how I see things and, perhaps, as I'd like to see.
I started to photograph anything. I was fascinated by the possibility of freezing a moment of life on paper and be able to examining it a long time. Over time I became aware of wanting more. I wanted to photograph something really nice, something that went beyond a beautiful landscape.
Leafing through a magazine I was struck by an image: my eyes could not break away from there. I realized that it was "only" a photograph, but that piece of paper, the mixture of lights and shadows, those photons hitting my retina had the power to convey emotions.
It was a portrait.
From that moment began my journey to this type of photography.
Nowadays, with the advent of digital technology and new techniques for retouching, the photographer has the opportunity not only to make perfect images with less effort, but also a way to change the original at will, getting what they actually want to achieve.
This type of photography, instead of portraiture for private person, is a form of art where the artist draws what he has in mind. With that modified image, the photographer reproduce not so much reality but his way of seeing reality.
And that's what I like about photography: the possibility to freeze a moment of life, change it as I would like it to be and make it eternal.
Perhaps for this reason, before taking the camera in hand, I ponder long and hard about what I want to get. I am not a voracious of images, but I prefer to have already an idea of what I will realize. This, too, in my opinion, is part of the magic of photography: the phase of reflection, preparation of the shooting, the production of images, the selection of the best, the digital retouching of each of them and finally printing.
Yes, the printing. I am a lover of paper, I like to keep it between my fingers, feeling the texture and keep it as if it were a treasure.
Even if the digital is around us and the print media seems to be destined to extinction, I still can not help it.
It gives me a sense of security ....
